SHPE (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers) is the leading organization for Hispanics in STEM. Our mission is to change lives by empowering the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential and to impact the world through STEM awareness, access, support, and development. At USF, we focus on bridging the gap between academics and industry while building a strong, supportive "familia".
Yes! You can join our familia at any point during the Fall or Spring semesters. While we highly recommend joining early to make the most of our workshops, mentorship programs, and national conference preparation, our doors are always open to new members.
Most of our on-campus GBMs and general workshops are open to anyone looking to learn and connect. However, certain exclusive networking sessions, flagship hackathons like HackJam and HackaBull, or university-funded trips may prioritize active, registered USF students. If you are a professional or local alumnus, we would love to have you participate as a mentor, guest speaker, or sponsor!

You are absolutely welcome! While our core focus is STEM, SHPE is open to all majors. Whether you are in business, the arts, or a health field, the professional development, leadership training, and networking skills you build here will apply to any career path.
We hold regular General Body Meetings (GBMs), alongside dedicated technical workshops, professional development sessions, and social events throughout the semester. Keep an eye on our official calendar and social media channels for specific weekly or bi-weekly schedules!
No, you do not need a national membership to attend our regular on-campus meetings and hangouts. However, becoming an official, paid SHPE National member unlocks major benefits, including eligibility to attend the National and Regional SHPE Conferences, access to exclusive scholarships, and entry into the national career center database.
